Here at Curbside Pets, LLC. we are puzzled. WE find it hard to understand why people would get a dog and not take of it! Or any animal! Are we as a human race that blinded by the fact that our animals are just that, animals! Don't get me wrong, there are some animals that we make as our pets that DO require to be outside. For example, a horse, pig or chickens. But even they need protection from the weather elements.
There are many ways to keep our pets warm.
Now, don't get me wrong. I know plenty of people that keep their dogs or cats outside, no matter the weather. BUT, those people also provide some form of protection from the weather. Its the law! These days, let animal control find you mistreating an animal, and you too will learn that hard lesson. This is a story in the news today of a Dog Frozen to Ground that should shed some light on this situation.
Its so simple to provide for your pet first before someone else has to FINE you or CONFISCATE the pet, before you realize you need to do better. These crimes are getting serious. So, lets provide some form of protection for them.
Remember to feed puppies 2x a day with high quality puppy food at least until there 6 months. And your adult pet, feed them EVERYDAY at least once (this does not include if your pet has special needs, like diabetes or cancer.) This is only a guideline and please speak with your pets' veterinarian. Keep them warm and safe, whether its inside or out. Lets provide a safe and happy home for all of our pets.
I know my last blog was concerning the end of your pets life. But, I had no intention on stumbling upon this information, otherwise I would of somehow included it in the last discussion.
Before we continue, let's make sure we all understand that what hospice means.
Hospice (for humans) is when you are assigned a healthcare agency that helps make your loved one last days on this earth comfortable. Its the process in death where you have decided all treatments have been done, and now you just want your love one to rest...comfortably.
Now, Is hospice right for our pets?
Being in the medical field for over 15 years, I will tell you the same as I have told other clients.
This is a personal decision that should be decided amongst you and the rest of the family. Because watching someone (something) die slowly is a challenge not only mentally but physically. Its not as easy as one may think it is. Here you are at the beside of a loved one, knowing any day could be there last.
Many people may feel that this is taking "care for your pet" to a whole another level. Our pets ARE a part of our family. And when one of our family members are sick we go that extra mile for them, hoping and praying that they'd get better. So again the question is, is hospice too much for our pets?
I say if you could afford it, then why not. Don't be naïve, medical care in general is expensive. Especially specialty care such as hospice. No, when it comes to family we would sell our souls just to make their pain and suffering go away. This should be the same for our pets. No one else is as loyal to you and your family than your pet. (Seriously, think of how your pet loves you no matter what!)
Hospice care for your family or pet should be a FAMILY decision. This will affect you no matter how it turns out. And don't feel bad if you cannot give your pet this special treatment. Your pet knows that love them....why not spend what little time they have left letting them know that.
We've all lost someone close to us, at some point in our life. Whether we were young or at our age now. Whether human or pet, death affects us all in some way. I wanted to take the time to share with you all my story of loss. Most of you may have already read my other blog, Remembering Teresa Jones, whereas I write about the loss of my oldest sister.
I had a dog name Tyson. Trust me, I've had several dogs before this one. But, I feel that Tyson was so different from the rest that because my sister, Teresa, gave him to me. He was unlike any mixed breed dog that I had every owned. He was smart. He minded and followed commands well. But most of all, Tyson was loyal to me.
Tyson didn't do anything miraculous, he was a normal dog to me. The difference that I learned at an early age that is not so hard to understand now is that, he looked for me. Everyday, he waited for me to feed and provide for him. No matter how bad a day I had, he was there for me. How loyal is that?
I lost Tyson in 2008. No, he didn't die. I lost him because he ran away behind some dog in heat. I blame myself because I saw the female dog earlier that day in our yard. But, I still had to let him out to go to the bathroom. Not knowing, well not really understanding, how little a dog will mind when a female comes around them during that time.
I let him out that day, and even with me standing there (as I still do now while my dogs are outside) he sniffed and ran and ran. He didn't answer any of my commands to run. Tyson never looked back! That's why I was responsible. (Just weeks before I talked to his vet about possible neutering him.)
Well, today I stumbled upon something. Something that the minute I heard it, I thought of Tyson. And for that reason, I wanted to share it with you.
The dog poem that made Johnny Carson cry
At first, the poem made Johnny and the audience laugh, but it had a very different effect in the end. Describing it can’t do it justice; it’s something you have to see — and feel — for yourself, so check out the video.
I wanted to share today of stories of our pets that have changed our lives in some way. I have not personally experienced any of these life changing moments with a pet. But who knows what the future may hold.
This entry will include some positive only moments. Because the media ALWAYS will share a story of negativity.
Below are some positive messages of our pets changing a lives.
Now, my question would be could you let your dog go like this? Even though he's only a few months old, I don't think I could do this. I got all 3 of my pitbulls at around 7 weeks old. Even at 7 weeks, after the first feeding & just bonding with them to reassure them that my home was safe, I couldn't see myself doing this.
Don't get me wrong. I DONT know what this owners circumstances were. Its just that I would have to really be down and out before I let mines go like this. Maybe give him to another family member, a friend or anyone that I knew would care for him the way I had. Instead of a HIGH KILL shelter! There are so many mixed feeling about this that I am having.
But in the end, I wish someone reading this could help save his life. Or any dog life for that matter. I am at a point where 3 dogs can be a handful. That's why I participate in donating to charities to save our pets in our homes. After all of our pets' loyalty to us, don't they deserve this?
